Working closely with the curators and volunteering managers of museums, archives, gardens and historic houses, our members get to spend time behind the scenes in these wonderful places as part of a team of volunteers.

From the conservation of books to research projects in historic parks and gardens, our volunteers are busy helping to conserve and protect the nation’s heritage for future generations. They are trained by experts and work in many different roles including book conservators, stewards and archivists in heritage sites.

Some of our past projects include book preservation and armour cleaning at Penshurst Place, embroidering kneelers for the Quire at Rochester Cathedral, sorting, classifying and recording the archives of the Sevenoaks Vine Cricket Club (founded 1734) and filling a variety of roles at Knole House, Quebec House, Lullingstone Castle and Riverhead. More recently we have worked on the huge number of parish records at Otford, some going back many centuries, helping with the organisation, preservation and storage of material. We were working one morning a week for about two hours at Otford, up to six volunteers at a time, so if we have a large enough team no volunteer has to give up a great deal of their time and go along every week.

SUGGESTIONS FOR HERITAGE PROJECTS WELCOME.

FOR ALL THE PROJECTS WE SHALL PROVIDE ANY TRAINING YOU NEED AND WILL MAKE SURE YOU ARE WORKING IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT.

Please contact our local representative Barbara Ropek, if you would like to volunteer with us or fill in your details and we shall get in touch with you.
